Kim Malmquist has studied orchestra conducting during three years for Professor Jorma Panula at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland. In addition, he has received education in conducting at the music conservatory Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris/Alfred Cortot (Professor Dominique Rouits). Here, he graduated with the 1st prize in the diploma class. He also participated in a masterclass held by Sergio Celibidache.
During his period in France Kim Malmquist conducted Orchestre de l'Opéra-théâtre de Massy. In Finland, he has conducted the Symphony Orchestra of the city of Vasa and the Sibelius Symphony Orchestra.
In Sweden, Kim Malmquist has conducted the Nordic Chamber Orchestra, The Gotland Wind Orchestra, The Stockholm Wind Symphony Orchestra, Musica Vitae, and the Stockholm String Ensemble.
Kim Malmquist
Stockholm String Ensemble was founded in 1993 by Kim Malmquist who has since been its principal and conductor. The ensemble consists of musicians from the Orchestra of the Royal Opera.
